Mozilla Extensions disabled and unremovable – what now?

If you are a user – like me – which updates his Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird continuous by keeping his profile alive since first Installation ever you might come a cross some troubles with your extensions by beeing disabled and you have no chance to remove them by default funciton. Also you might not find them in the extension Subfolder of Mozilla Main Folder nor Profile Folder. What now?

The Extensions troubling me where the following:

Firefox

  • Firefox Synchronisation Extension by Nokia
  • HP Web Smart Print by Hewlett Packard

Thunderbird

  • Nokia Synchronization by KaarPoSoft

In my experience creating a new profile may not solve the issue. The only way to solve the situation is to go into your Windows Registry and delete some entries in following structure:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (HKLM) > Software > Mozilla
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER (HKCU) > Software > Mozilla

With my Situation i upgraded to the Version 5 of Firefox and Thunderbird. The not removable extesnsion i found in following Subfolders: „Firefox“ and „Thunderbird“. After deleteing them and restarting the Programs the extensions where not listed up anymore.

The other Subfolders „Mozilla Firefox“, „Mozilla Fiefox 5.0“, „Mozilla Thunderbird“ and „Mozilla Thunderbird 5.0“ shouldn’t be deleted!
